Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Do I need to rent a car?

Yes. If you are arriving in Rhode Island by means other than a car, you will need to rent a car. The public transportation system doesn't service Barrington, and cabs are rare. See the travel section of our site....

Where should I stay?

We suggest that you stay at the Bay Point Inn and Conference Center in Portsmouth Rhode Island (see Accommodations). We apologize that it may sometimes be difficult to get someone on the line, but the number is right. If you get an automated message, press '0' for reservations. This is a seasonal hotel (May 7 - Aug 3) located about halfway between Newport, RI (beaches, rehearsal dinner) and Barrington, RI (wedding). It is centrally located for wedding events and sight seeing, however, it is not on the beach, (but remember, you rented a car for that ;). If you prefer to stay closer to the water or within walking distance of restaurants and activities, we have listed additional suggestions on our accommodations page. If you choose to stay in Newport, allow plenty of extra time for travel. Traffic will be heavy.

What is the weather like in Rhode Island?

We are hoping for temperatures in the low 80s with pleasant ocean breezes. Perfect ceremony-on-the-terrace weather. However, this is New England, so there are no guarantees. Low 80s is typical, but it can occasionally reach into the 90s or even dip lower into the 60s or 70s. Bring a wrap or light sweater to use outdoors in the evening.

What should I wear?

Wear something that reflects the formality of the event and that makes you feel fabulous. Evening wear is appropriate: even though the ceremony begins in the late afternoon, dinner and dancing will continue through the evening. Black tie is invited, not required.

I am traveling to Rhode Island with my children. Can you suggest a sitter during the wedding?

We can help you make arrangements with an experienced and reliable sitter during the wedding. Please call or email David and Erin at 215-271-1464 or nunescooper@gmail.com before May 20th so that we can accommodate you.

Where is the ceremony?

The ceremony will be held outdoors on the terrace at the Rhode Island Country Club. The reception will immediately follow. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Rhode Island Country Club.

What type of ceremony are you having?

We are having a Jewish wedding ceremony officiated by Rabbi Helman from Santa Fe, NM. There will be kippot/yarmulkes (little hats) available for everyone upon entrance. These are worn as a sign of respect in the Jewish tradition. Traditionally they are worn by men, but recently some women have embraced this tradition as well. Feel free to wear one during and after the ceremony, but feel no obligation. The ceremony will be about half in English and half in Hebrew.

Will the meal be kosher?

The meal at the Rhode Island Country Club is not kosher. There will be salads, fruits, vegetables, and other cold appetizers available. We can bring in a limited number of supervised kosher meals from an outside vendor. If you would like a kosher meal, please call or email David and Erin at 215-271-1464 or nunescooper@gmail.com before May 20th so that we can accommodate you.

Where is the nearest Wawa?

Sorry folks, there are no Wawa's in Rhode Island. However, if you ask for Cumbie's, you'll be directed to the nearest Cumberland Farms mini mart. If you are looking for good coffee, try Dunkin' Donuts (trust us, it's better in New England).

I'm planning on staying in Rhode Island for several days. What area activities or events would you suggest?

What does "Newport Casual" mean?

You will see this phrase around town, particularly in area restaurants. "Newport Casual" indicates a casual summer dress code. This means no jeans, but a jacket is not required. It is your nicer 'casual.'
